2 accounts of this passage
2 Samuel 6:1–11
1Once more, David gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. 2Then David and all his men set out from Baale of Judah to bring back the ark of God — the ark that bears the name of the LORD of hosts, who is enthroned between the cherubim. 3They loaded God's ark onto a new cart and brought it out of Abinadab's house on the hill. Abinadab's sons, Uzzah and Ahio, drove the new cart. 4They brought it out from Abinadab's house on the hill, walking alongside God's ark, with Ahio going ahead of it. 5David and all the house of Israel played before the LORD on all kinds of instruments made of fir wood, including harps, lyres, tambourines, cornets, and cymbals. 6When they reached Nachon's threshing floor, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark of God because the oxen shook it. 7The LORD's anger burned against Uzzah, and God struck him down right there for his error. He died beside the ark of God. 8David was upset that the LORD had struck Uzzah down, and he named that place Perezuzzah — a name it still carries today. 9David was afraid of the LORD that day and said, "How can I possibly bring the ark of the LORD to me?" 10So David decided not to bring the LORD's ark into the city of David. Instead, he had it taken to the house of Obededom the Gittite. 11The ark of the LORD stayed at Obededom the Gittite's house for 3 months, and the LORD blessed Obededom and his entire household.
