The Man in the Synagogue at Capernaum

²¹They went to Capernaum, and on the Sabbath Jesus went straight into the synagogue and began teaching. ²²They were astonished at his teaching because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the scribes. ²³Just then, a man in the synagogue who was possessed by an unclean spirit screamed out, ²⁴Leave us alone; what do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God! ²⁵Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet and come out of him!" ²⁶The unclean spirit threw the man into convulsions, let out a loud shriek, and came out of him. ²⁷They were all amazed, so much that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What thing is this? What new teaching is this? For with authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.” ²⁸News about Jesus spread instantly across the entire region of Galilee.
