The Shrewd Manager

¹Jesus also said to his disciples, "There was a wealthy man who had a manager, and the manager was accused to him of wasting his goods." ²So the rich man called him in and said, 'What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you may no longer be steward.' ³The manager thought to himself, 'What shall I do now that my master is taking away my position? I cannot dig, and I am ashamed to beg.' ⁴I am determined what to do, so that when I am removed from the stewardship, they will welcome me into their homes. ⁵So he called in each person who owed his master money. He asked the first one, 'How much do you owe my master?' ⁶The man answered, '100 measures of oil.' The manager told him, 'Here, take your bill, sit down right now, and change it to 50.' ⁷Then he asked another, 'And how much do you owe?' He said, '100 measures of wheat.' The manager told him, 'Take your bill and change it to 80.' ⁸The master praised the dishonest manager for acting shrewdly. For the people of this world are more shrewd in their generation than the children of light. ⁹And I tell you, make friends for yourselves with the mammon of unrighteousness, so that when you fail, they may welcome you into everlasting dwellings. ¹⁰Whoever is faithful with very little will also be faithful with a lot. And whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with a lot. ¹¹“Therefore, if you have not been faithful with unrighteous wealth, who will entrust the true riches to you?” ¹²And if you haven't been faithful with what belongs to someone else, who is going to give you something of your own? ¹³No servant can serve two masters. Either he'll hate one and love the other, or he'll be devoted to one and look down on the other. You cannot serve both God and money."
