Healing a Paralyzed Man

¹And again he entered Capernaum after some days, and word spread that he was in the house. ²Immediately many were gathered together, so that there was no room to receive them, not even about the door. And he preached the word to them. ³And they came to him, bringing a paralyzed man carried by four men. ⁴But they couldn't get near Jesus because of the crowd. So they climbed up on the roof, made an opening above where he was, and lowered the paralyzed man down on his mat. ⁵When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, 'Son, your sins are forgiven.' ⁶But there were certain scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, ⁷Why does this man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone? ⁸Jesus immediately knew in his spirit what they were thinking. He said to them, "Why are you questioning this in your hearts? ⁹Which is easier — to tell this paralyzed man, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up, pick up your mat, and walk'? ¹⁰But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins." Then he turned to the paralyzed man and said, ¹¹I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go your way into your house. ¹²The man immediately stood up, picked up his mat, and walked out in front of everyone. They were all amazed and glorified God, saying, "We've never seen anything like this!"
