Jesus Appears to His Disciples

³⁶While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood right there among them and said, "Peace be to you." ³⁷They were terrified and frightened, thinking they had seen a spirit. ³⁸He said to them, "Why are you troubled? And why do thoughts arise in your hearts?" ³⁹Look at my hands and my feet — it's really me. Touch me and see for yourselves. A spirit doesn't have flesh and bones like I do." ⁴⁰As he said this, he held out his hands and showed them his feet. ⁴¹And while they still did not believe because of joy and amazement, he asked them, "Do you have anything here to eat?" ⁴²They gave him a piece of broiled fish and some honeycomb. ⁴³He took it and ate it right in front of them. ⁴⁴Then he told them, "This is what I was telling you while I was still with you: everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms must be fulfilled." ⁴⁵Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. ⁴⁶He said to them, "This is what was written: the Christ would suffer and rise from the dead on the 3rd day, ⁴⁷and repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in his name to all nations, starting from Jerusalem. ⁴⁸You are witnesses of all these things. ⁴⁹Now listen — I am sending you what my Father promised. But stay here in Jerusalem until you are clothed with power from on high."
