Jesus Prays for His Followers

¹After saying these things, Jesus looked up toward heaven and said, "Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, so that your Son may glorify you. ²You gave him authority over all flesh, so that he could give eternal life to all those you have given him. ³And this is eternal life: to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. ⁴I have glorified you on the earth. I have finished the work you gave me to do. ⁵And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory I had with you before the world existed. ⁶I have revealed your name to the people you gave me out of the world. They were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. ⁷Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. ⁸For I have given them the words you gave me, and they have received them. They know with certainty that I came from you, and they have believed that you sent me. ⁹I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. ¹⁰All that is mine is yours, and all that is yours is mine, and I am glorified in them. ¹¹I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, those whom you have given me, so that they may be one, just as we are. ¹²While I was with them in the world, I kept them in your name. I guarded those you gave me, and none of them was lost except the son of destruction, so that the Scripture would be fulfilled. ¹³But now I am coming to you, and I am saying these things while in the world so that they may have my joy made full in themselves. ¹⁴I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. ¹⁵I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one. ¹⁶They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. ¹⁷Sanctify them in your truth; your word is truth. ¹⁸Just as you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. ¹⁹And for their sakes I sanctify myself, so that they also may be sanctified in the truth. ²⁰I am not praying for these alone, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, ²¹that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be one in us, so that the world may believe that you sent me. ²²The glory that you gave me I have given to them, so that they may be one just as we are one — ²³I in them and you in me, that they may be made perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and have loved them just as you have loved me. ²⁴Father, I will that those you have given me would also be with me where I am, so that they may see my glory, which you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world. ²⁵Righteous Father, the world has not known you, but I have known you, and these have known that you sent me. ²⁶I have made your name known to them, and will continue to make it known, so that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them."
