“Let Me Cross Over”

Near the end of his life

PreviousNext

Deuteronomy 3:23–28

23At that time, I pleaded with the LORD: 24"Lord GOD, you've only begun to show your servant your greatness and your mighty power. What god in heaven or on earth can match your works or your mighty acts? 25Please, let me cross over and see the good land beyond the Jordan — those beautiful hills and Lebanon." 26But the LORD was angry with me because of you, and he refused to listen. The LORD said to me, "Enough! Don't bring this up with me again. 27Climb to the top of Pisgah and look in every direction — west, north, south, and east. Take a long look, because you will never cross this Jordan. 28Instead, commission Joshua. Encourage him and strengthen him, because he's the one who will lead this people across and help them take possession of the land you can only see from here."

About this passage

What happened

Moses begged the LORD to let him cross the Jordan and see the good land. The LORD said, “That is enough,” and told him not to ask again. He told Moses to look at the land from the top of Pisgah, and to encourage Joshua, who would lead the people across.
