Bitter Water Made Sweet

Journey to Sinai · Marah

Exodus 15:22–27

22Moses led Israel away from the Red Sea, and they headed out into the wilderness of Shur. They traveled for 3 days through the wilderness without finding any water. 23When they came to Marah, they could not drink the water there because it was bitter. Therefore, the place was called Marah. 24The people complained to Moses, saying, "What shall we drink?" 25He cried to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree. When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet. There he made a statute and an ordinance for them, and there he tested them. 26He said, "If you truly listen to the voice of the LORD your God, do what is right before him, pay attention to his commands, and obey all his laws, I won't bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians. I am the LORD who heals you." 27Then they came to Elim, where there were 12 springs of water and 70 palm trees. They set up camp there beside the water.
