Moses' Story · Event 9 of 59
God Renews His Promise
Before Pharaoh · Egypt
Exodus 6:1–13
1Then the LORD said to Moses, "Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh, for with a strong hand he will let them go, and with a strong hand he will drive them out of his land." 2God spoke to Moses and told him, "I am the LORD. 3I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as God Almighty, but I did not reveal myself to them by my name, the LORD. 4I also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land where they were strangers. 5Now I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians have enslaved, and I have remembered my covenant. 6So tell the Israelites this: 'I am the LORD. I will free you from the crushing labor the Egyptians have forced on you. I will rescue you from slavery. I will redeem you with my outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. 7I will claim you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. 8I will bring you into the land I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and I will give it to you as a heritage. I am the LORD. 9Moses spoke to the children of Israel, but they did not listen to him because of anguish of spirit and cruel bondage. 10Then the LORD spoke to Moses: 11"Go and tell Pharaoh, king of Egypt, to let the Israelites leave his land." 12But Moses spoke to the LORD, saying, "Look, the children of Israel have not listened to me; how then will Pharaoh listen to me, since I have uncircumcised lips?" 13The LORD spoke to both Moses and Aaron, giving them orders regarding the Israelites and Pharaoh, king of Egypt, to bring the Israelites out of Egypt.
