Luke 9:28–36

28About 8 days after he said these things, Jesus took Peter, John, and James and went up on a mountain to pray. 29While he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white. 30Suddenly, 2 men appeared and were talking with him — they were Moses and Elijah. 31who appeared in glory and spoke about his departure, which he would accomplish at Jerusalem. 32Peter and the others had been overcome with sleep, but when they fully woke up, they saw his glory and the 2 men standing with him. 33As they departed from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us make three tents—one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” He did not know what he was saying. 34While he was still speaking, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they feared as they entered into the cloud. 35Then a voice came from the cloud: "This is my beloved Son. Listen to him!" 36When the voice had spoken, Jesus was standing there alone. The disciples kept this to themselves and told no one at that time what they had seen.

About this event

What happened?

Jesus took Peter, James and John up a mountain to pray. As he prayed, his face changed and his clothes became shining white. Moses and Elijah appeared in glory and talked with Jesus. Luke says they spoke about his departure (the KJV says “decease”), which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. A cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said that this was God's Son, and told them to listen to him. Then only Jesus was there.
