Exodus 2:11–15
11In those days, when Moses had grown up, he went out to his own people and observed their burdens. He saw an Egyptian striking a Hebrew, one of his own people. 12Moses looked around in every direction, and when he saw that there was no one there, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. 13The next day he went out again and saw two Hebrew men fighting each other. He said to the one in the wrong, "Why are you hitting your own countryman?" 14The man replied, "Who made you a prince and judge over us? Are you planning to kill me like you killed the Egyptian?" Moses was afraid and said, "Surely this thing is known." 15When Pharaoh heard about this, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from Pharaoh and settled in the land of Midian, where he sat down by a well.
