Stoned and Left for Dead
The First Journey · Lystra
Acts 14:19–28
19Then some Jews arrived from Antioch and Iconium and persuaded the crowd. They stoned Paul and dragged him outside the city, supposing he was dead. 20But as the disciples gathered around him, he rose up and went back into the city. The next day, he left with Barnabas for Derbe. 21After they had preached the gospel in that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, then to Iconium, and then to Antioch, 22strengthening the souls of the disciples, urging them to continue in the faith, and saying, "We must go through many tribulations to enter the kingdom of God." 23They appointed elders for them in every church, and with prayer and fasting, they committed them to the Lord in whom they had believed. 24After passing through Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia. 25When they had preached the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia. 26From there they sailed to Antioch, where they had been commended to the grace of God for the work they had now completed. 27When they arrived, they gathered the church together and reported all that God had done through them, and how he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles. 28And they stayed there a long time with the disciples.
