Jairus' Daughter

Following Jesus

3 accounts of this passage

Mark 5:35–43

35While Jesus was still speaking, some people arrived from Jairus's house with the news: "Your daughter is dead. There's no reason to bother the Teacher anymore." 36But Jesus overheard what they said and immediately told Jairus, "Don't be afraid. Just believe." 37He didn't let anyone come with him except Peter, James, and James's brother John. 38When they arrived at Jairus's house, Jesus found chaos — people weeping and wailing loudly. 39He went inside and said to them, "Why all this commotion and crying? The child isn't dead — she's sleeping." 40They laughed at him. But he sent them all outside, then took the girl's father and mother and those with him into the room where the child was lying. 41He took the girl by the hand and said, "Talitha cumi!" — which means, "Little girl, I'm telling you, get up!" 42Immediately the girl stood up and began walking around. She was 12 years old. Everyone there was completely astonished. 43Jesus gave them strict orders not to tell anyone about this, and then told them to give her something to eat.
