13Jesus went up on a mountainside and called the ones he wanted, and they came to him. 14He appointed twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them out to preach. 15And to have power to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons. 16He gave Simon the name Peter; 17James son of Zebedee and his brother John — Jesus nicknamed them Boanerges, which means "Sons of Thunder"; 18Andrew; Philip; Bartholomew; Matthew; Thomas; James son of Alphaeus; Thaddaeus; Simon the Canaanite; 19and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him. Then they went into a house.

About this event

What happened?

Jesus went up on the mountain and called to him the ones he wanted. He appointed 12 of them as apostles, to be with him, to be sent out to preach, and to have authority to drive out demons. The first was Simon, whom he named Peter. Every list of the Twelve puts him first.
