- 1Here are the divisions of the gatekeepers: From the Korahites, there was Meshelemiah son of Kore, one of the descendants of Asaph.
- 2Meshelemiah's sons were Zechariah the firstborn, Jediael the second, Zebadiah the third, Jathniel the fourth,
- 3Elam the fifth, Jehohanan the sixth, and Elioenai the seventh.
- 4Obededom's sons were Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, Sacar the fourth, Nethaneel the fifth,
- 5Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh, Peulthai the eighth: for God blessed him.
- 6Shemaiah, his son, also had sons who ruled throughout their father's household because they were mighty men of valour.
- 7The sons of Shemaiah were Othni, Rephael, Obed, and Elzabad, whose brothers were strong men, including Elihu and Semachiah.
- 8All of these were descendants of Obededom. Together with their sons and relatives, they were strong and well-suited for the work — 62 men in all from Obededom's family.
- 9Meshelemiah had sons and relatives who were strong men — 18 in all.
- 10Hosah, from the descendants of Merari, also had sons. Simri was the chief — even though he wasn't the firstborn, his father appointed him as the leader.
- 11Hilkiah was the second, Tebaliah the third, and Zechariah the fourth. Hosah's sons and relatives totaled 13.
- 12These gatekeepers were organized into divisions led by their chief men, with duties assigned opposite each other, to serve in the house of the LORD.
- 13They cast lots for each gate, involving both the small and the great, according to their ancestral families.
- 14The east gate was assigned to Shelemiah. Then they cast lots for his son Zechariah, who was known as a wise counselor, and he was assigned the north gate.
- 15Obededom was assigned the south gate, and his sons were put in charge of the storehouses.
- 16Shuppim and Hosah were assigned the west side, at the Shallecheth Gate near the upper road, with guards stationed opposite each other.
- 17Each day, 6 Levites were posted on the east side, 4 on the north, 4 on the south, and 2 pairs at the storehouses.
- 18At the court on the west side, 4 guards stood at the road and 2 at the court itself.
- 19These were the divisions of the gatekeepers from the descendants of Kore and the descendants of Merari.
- 20Among the other Levites, Ahijah was in charge of the treasuries of God's house and the treasuries where dedicated gifts were kept.
- 21From the descendants of Laadan the Gershonite, the family heads of Laadan's line included Jehieli.
- 22Jehieli's sons, Zetham and his brother Joel, were responsible for the treasuries of the house of the LORD.
- 23From the clans of the Amramites, Izharites, Hebronites, and Uzzielites:
- 24Shebuel son of Gershom, the grandson of Moses, served as the chief official over the treasuries.
- 25His relatives through Eliezer's line were Rehabiah his son, then Jeshaiah, then Joram, then Zichri, and then Shelomith.
- 26Shelomith and his relatives were in charge of all the treasuries of the dedicated things, which King David, the chief fathers, the captains over thousands and hundreds, and the captains of the host had dedicated.
- 27They set aside plunder won in battle to maintain the house of the LORD.
- 28Everything dedicated by Samuel the seer, Saul son of Kish, Abner son of Ner, and Joab son of Zeruiah — in fact, anything anyone had ever dedicated — was placed under the care of Shelomith and his relatives.
- 29From the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons were responsible for external affairs over Israel, serving as officers and judges.
- 30From the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his relatives — 1,700 capable men — were put in charge of Israel's affairs west of the Jordan, handling both the LORD's work and the king's business.
- 31Jerijah was the chief of the Hebronites, traced through their family records. In the 40th year of David's reign, a search was conducted, and mighty men of valor from this clan were found at Jazer in Gilead.
- 32Jerijah had 2,700 relatives who were capable men and heads of families. King David put them in charge of the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, overseeing everything related to God's service and the king's affairs.
