1. 1The sons of Levi were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
2. 2The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.
3. 3The children of Amram were Aaron, Moses, and Miriam. The sons of Aaron were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
4. 4Eleazar was the father of Phinehas, and Phinehas was the father of Abishua.
5. 5Abishua was the father of Bukki, and Bukki was the father of Uzzi.
6. 6Uzzi was the father of Zerahiah, and Zerahiah was the father of Meraioth.
7. 7Meraioth was the father of Amariah, and Amariah was the father of Ahitub.
8. 8Ahitub was the father of Zadok, and Zadok was the father of Ahimaaz.
9. 9Ahimaaz was the father of Azariah, and Azariah was the father of Johanan.
10. 10Johanan was the father of Azariah, who executed the priest's office in the temple that Solomon built in Jerusalem.
11. 11Azariah was the father of Amariah, and Amariah was the father of Ahitub.
12. 12Ahitub was the father of Zadok, and Zadok was the father of Shallum.
13. 13Shallum was the father of Hilkiah, and Hilkiah was the father of Azariah.
14. 14Azariah was the father of Seraiah, and Seraiah was the father of Jehozadak.
15. 15Jehozadak was taken into captivity when the LORD carried away Judah and Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar's hand.
16. 16The sons of Levi were Gershom, Kohath, and Merari.
17. 17The sons of Gershom were named Libni and Shimei.
18. 18The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.
19. 19The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites according to their fathers.
20. 20From Gershom: his son Libni, then Jahath, then Zimmah,
21. 21then Joah, then Iddo, then Zerah, then Jeaterai.
22. 22The sons of Kohath: Amminadab his son, Korah his son, Assir his son,
23. 23then Elkanah, then Ebiasaph, then Assir,
24. 24then Tahath, then Uriel, then Uzziah, then Shaul.
25. 25The sons of Elkanah were Amasai and Ahimoth.
26. 26As for Elkanah's line: his son Zophai, then Nahath,
27. 27then Eliab, then Jeroham, then Elkanah.
28. 28The sons of Samuel were the firstborn Vashni and Abiah.
29. 29The sons of Merari: Mahli, Libni his son, Shimei his son, Uzza his son,
30. 30then Shimea, then Haggiah, then Asaiah.
31. 31These are the men David appointed over the service of song in the house of the LORD after the ark came to rest there.
32. 32They served as singers before the tabernacle — the Tent of Meeting — until Solomon built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem. After that, they carried out their duties according to the order assigned to them.
33. 33These are they who served with their children. Of the sons of the Kohathites: Heman a singer, the son of Joel, the son of Shemuel.
34. 34the son of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Eliel, the son of Toah,
35. 35the son of Zuph, the son of Elkanah, the son of Mahath, the son of Amasai,
36. 36the son of Elkanah, the son of Joel, the son of Azariah, the son of Zephaniah,
37. 37the son of Tahath, the son of Assir, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah,
38. 38the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, the son of Israel.
39. 39And his brother Asaph stood at his right hand, Asaph the son of Berachiah, the son of Shimea,
40. 40the son of Michael, the son of Baaseiah, the son of Malchiah,
41. 41the son of Ethni, the son of Zerah, the son of Adaiah,
42. 42the son of Ethan, the son of Zimmah, the son of Shimei,
43. 43the son of Jahath, the son of Gershom, the son of Levi.
44. 44And their relatives, the sons of Merari, stood on the left side: Ethan the son of Kishi, the son of Abdi, the son of Malluch,
45. 45the son of Hashabiah, the son of Amaziah, the son of Hilkiah,
46. 46the son of Amzi, the son of Bani, the son of Shamer,
47. 47the son of Mahli, the son of Mushi, the son of Merari, the son of Levi.
48. 48Their fellow Levites were assigned to handle every other kind of service at the tabernacle, the house of God.
49. 49But Aaron and his descendants were the ones who made offerings on the altar of burnt offering and the altar of incense. They were responsible for all the work of the Most Holy Place and for making atonement for Israel, following everything that Moses, the servant of God, had commanded.
50. 50These are the sons of Aaron: Eleazar his son, Phinehas his son, Abishua his son,
51. 51then Bukki, then Uzzi, then Zerahiah,
52. 52then Meraioth, then Amariah, then Ahitub,
53. 53then Zadok, then Ahimaaz.
54. 54These are their dwelling places within their fortresses in their lands, belonging to the sons of Aaron, from the families of the Kohathites, for theirs was the lot.
55. 55They gave them Hebron in the land of Judah, along with the surrounding suburbs.
56. 56But the fields of the city and its villages were given to Caleb son of Jephunneh.
57. 57Aaron's descendants were given the cities of Judah, including Hebron, the city of refuge, and Libnah with its suburbs, as well as Jattir and Eshtemoa with their suburbs.
58. 58Hilen with its pasturelands, Debir with its pasturelands,
59. 59Ashan with its pasturelands, and Beth Shemesh with its pasturelands.
60. 60From the tribe of Benjamin, they received Geba with its pasturelands, Alemeth with its pasturelands, and Anathoth with its pasturelands. All their cities throughout their families were thirteen cities.
61. 61And to the sons of Kohath, who were left of the family of that tribe, ten cities were given by lot from the half tribe of Manasseh.
62. 62And to the sons of Gershom throughout their families, from the tribe of Issachar, the tribe of Asher, the tribe of Naphtali, and the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, they received thirteen cities.
63. 63To the sons of Merari were given by lot, throughout their families, from the tribe of Reuben, the tribe of Gad, and the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities.
64. 64The people of Israel gave these cities and their pasturelands to the Levites.
65. 65From the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin, they assigned by lot the cities listed here by name.
66. 66And the remaining families of the sons of Kohath received cities from the borders of the tribe of Ephraim.
67. 67They were given Shechem (a city of refuge) in the hill country of Ephraim with its pasturelands, and also Gezer with its pasturelands,
68. 68Jokmeam with its pasturelands, Beth Horon with its pasturelands,
69. 69Aijalon with its pasturelands, and Gath Rimmon with its pasturelands.
70. 70From the half-tribe of Manasseh, Aner with its pasturelands and Bileam with its pasturelands were given to the family of the remnant of the sons of Kohath.
71. 71To the sons of Gershom were given from the family of the half-tribe of Manasseh: Golan in Bashan with its suburbs, and Ashtaroth with its suburbs.
72. 72From the tribe of Issachar they received Kedesh with its pasturelands, Daberath with its pasturelands,
73. 73Ramoth with its pasturelands, and Anem with its pasturelands.
74. 74From the tribe of Asher they received Mashal with its pasturelands, Abdon with its pasturelands,
75. 75Hukok with its pasturelands, and Rehob with its pasturelands.
76. 76From the tribe of Naphtali they received Kedesh in Galilee with its pasturelands, Hammon with its pasturelands, and Kirjathaim with its pasturelands.
77. 77To the rest of the children of Merari were given from the tribe of Zebulun: Rimmon with its suburbs and Tabor with its suburbs.
78. 78Across the Jordan from Jericho, on the river's east side, they received from the tribe of Reuben: Bezer in the wilderness with its pasturelands and Jahzah with its pasturelands,
79. 79Kedemoth with its pasturelands, and Mephaath with its pasturelands.
80. 80From the tribe of Gad they received Ramoth in Gilead with its pasturelands, Mahanaim with its pasturelands,
81. 81Heshbon with its pasturelands, and Jazer with its pasturelands.
