- 1Even if I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I am like a sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
- 2If I had the gift of prophecy and understood every mystery and possessed all knowledge — if I had faith powerful enough to move mountains — but didn't have love, I would be nothing.
- 3If I gave away everything I owned to feed the poor, and even surrendered my body to be burned, but didn't have love, I would gain nothing from it.
- 4Love is patient and kind. Love doesn't envy. It doesn't brag, and it isn't proud.
- 5It isn't rude, it doesn't demand its own way, it isn't easily angered, and it thinks no evil.
- 6Love does not rejoice in wrongdoing but rejoices in the truth.
- 7It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things.
- 8Love never fails. Prophecies will come to an end. Speaking in tongues will stop. Knowledge will fade away.
- 9For we know partially, and we prophesy partially.
- 10But when what is perfect comes, what is partial will be done away.
- 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I understood like a child, I thought like a child. But when I grew up, I left those childish ways behind.
- 12For now we see only a dim reflection, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
- 13And now remain faith, hope, and love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
