- 1How dare any of you, having a dispute with another, go to court before the unrighteous instead of before the saints?
- 2Don't you realize that God's people will judge the world? And if you're going to judge the world, can't you handle these minor disputes among yourselves?
- 3Don't you know that we will judge angels? How much more should we be able to settle ordinary matters of everyday life?
- 4If you have disputes about matters of this life, appoint those who are least respected in the church to judge them.
- 5You should be ashamed of yourselves. Isn't there even one wise person among you who can settle a disagreement between fellow believers?
- 6Instead, one believer drags another into court — and in front of unbelievers, no less!
- 7The fact that you have lawsuits against each other at all is already a defeat for you. Why not just accept being wronged? Why not just let yourselves be cheated?
- 8No, you do wrong and defraud, and you do this to your brothers and sisters.
- 9Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor the effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
- 10nor thieves, nor greedy people, nor drunkards, nor verbal abusers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
- 11Some of you used to live exactly like that. But you were washed clean. You were set apart as holy. You were made right with God through the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
- 12All things are permissible for me, but not everything is beneficial. All things are permissible for me, but I will not be mastered by anything.
- 13Food is for the stomach, and the stomach is for food, but God will destroy both. The body is not for fornication, but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body.
- 14God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us up too by his power.
- 15Don't you know that your bodies are parts of Christ himself? Should I take what belongs to Christ and unite it with a prostitute? Absolutely not!
- 16Don't you realize that anyone who joins himself to a prostitute becomes one body with her? Scripture says, 'The two will become one flesh.'
- 17But anyone who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him.
- 18Flee fornication. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but whoever commits fornication sins against their own body.
- 19Don't you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who lives in you — the Spirit you received from God? You don't belong to yourselves.
- 20You were bought with a price. Therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.
