  1. 1Now, brothers and sisters, regarding the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to meet him, we have something to ask of you.
  2. 2Do not be quickly shaken in mind or troubled, whether by spirit, word, or letter as if from us, suggesting that the day of Christ is at hand.
  3. 3Do not let anyone deceive you in any way. For that day will not come until a falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of destruction.
  4. 4He will oppose and exalt himself above everything that is called God or worshiped, even going so far as to sit in God's temple and declare himself to be God.
  5. 5Don't you remember? I told you all of this when I was still with you.
  6. 6And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed in his time.
  7. 7For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work: only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.
  8. 8Then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the spirit of his mouth and destroy with the brightness of his coming.
  9. 9The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power and signs and lying wonders.
  10. 10And with all the deceitfulness of unrighteousness in those who are perishing, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
  11. 11Because of this, God will send them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie.
  12. 12This is so that all who did not believe the truth but took pleasure in unrighteousness may be condemned.
  13. 13But we are always bound to thank God for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you for salvation through the sanctification of the Spirit and belief in the truth.
  14. 14He called you through our gospel, to obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  15. 15So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold on to the traditions you were taught, whether by word or by our letter.
  16. 16May our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father—who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and good hope—
  17. 17Encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good word and work.
