  1. 1Then the Spirit lifted me up and carried me to the east gate of the LORD's house — the one facing east. There at the entrance of the gate stood 25 men. Among them I recognized Jaazaniah son of Azur and Pelatiah son of Benaiah, both leaders of the people.
  2. 2God said to me, "Son of man, these are the men who plot evil and give wicked advice in this city.
  3. 3They say, “It is not near. Let us build houses. This city is the cooking pot, and we are the meat.”
  4. 4So prophesy against them. Prophesy, son of man!"
  5. 5The Spirit of the LORD fell on me and told me to speak: "This is what the LORD says: That is what you've been saying, people of Israel. I know every thought that enters your minds.
  6. 6You have killed so many in this city that you've filled its streets with the dead.
  7. 7So this is what the Lord GOD says: The people you slaughtered and left lying in the streets—they are the meat, and this city is the pot. But I will bring you out of it.
  8. 8You have feared the sword, and the sword is exactly what I will bring against you," declares the Lord GOD.
  9. 9"I will pull you out of this city and hand you over to foreigners, and I will carry out my judgment against you.
  10. 10You will die by the sword. I will judge you at the borders of Israel. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
  11. 11This city will not be your pot, and you will not be the meat inside it. I will judge you at the border of Israel.
  12. 12Then you will know that I am the LORD, because you have not followed my statutes or carried out my judgments, but have acted according to the manners of the heathen around you.
  13. 13While I was prophesying, Pelatiah son of Benaiah died. I fell facedown and cried out in a loud voice, "Oh, Lord GOD! Are you going to completely destroy what's left of Israel?"
  14. 14Then the word of the LORD came to me:
  15. 15"Son of man, your own relatives — your fellow exiles and all the rest of the house of Israel — these are the people about whom the residents of Jerusalem have said, 'They've been sent far away from the LORD. This land has been given to us now.'
  16. 16So tell them this: The Lord GOD says, 'Yes, I sent them far away among the nations and scattered them across foreign lands. But even there, I have been like a small sanctuary for them in the countries where they've gone.'
  17. 17Then say this: The Lord GOD says, 'I will gather you from the nations and bring you back from the countries where you've been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel again.'
  18. 18When they return, they will remove every disgusting idol and every detestable thing from the land.
  19. 19I will give them one heart and put a new spirit within them. I will remove their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.
  20. 20Then they will follow my laws and carefully obey my commands. They will be my people, and I will be their God.
  21. 21But for those whose hearts chase after their disgusting idols and detestable practices — I will bring the consequences of their actions down on their own heads," declares the Lord GOD.
  22. 22Then the cherubim spread their wings, with the wheels moving beside them, and the glory of the God of Israel hovered above them.
  23. 23The glory of the LORD rose up from the middle of the city and came to rest on the mountain east of Jerusalem.
  24. 24After that, the Spirit lifted me up and brought me in a vision by the Spirit of God to the exiles in Chaldea. Then the vision I had seen went up from me.
  25. 25I told the exiles everything the LORD had shown me.
