- 1Then I looked up, and there above the heads of the cherubim was the expanse, and hovering over it was what looked like a sapphire stone shaped like a throne.
- 2And he spoke to the man clothed in linen and said, "Go in between the wheels, even under the cherub, and fill your hand with coals of fire from between the cherubim, and scatter them over the city." The man went in as I watched.
- 3The cherubim stood on the right side of the temple when the man went in, and the cloud filled the inner courtyard.
- 4Then the glory of the LORD rose from the cherub and stood over the threshold of the temple. The temple was filled with the cloud, and the courtyard was full of the brightness of the LORD’s glory.
- 5The sound of the cherubim's wings could be heard all the way to the outer courtyard — it was like the voice of the Almighty God when he speaks.
- 6When he had commanded the man dressed in linen, 'Take fire from between the wheels, from among the cherubim,' the man went in and stood beside the wheels.
- 7One of the cherubim reached out his hand into the fire burning among them, scooped up some of it, and placed it into the hands of the man dressed in linen. The man took it and went out.
- 8Beneath the wings of the cherubim, something shaped like a human hand could be seen.
- 9I looked and saw four wheels beside the cherubim — one wheel next to each cherub. The wheels gleamed like beryl stone.
- 10All four wheels looked the same, as if a wheel was within a wheel.
- 11When they moved, they went in any of their four directions without turning. They followed wherever the head looked; they did not turn as they moved.
- 12Their entire bodies—their backs, their hands, their wings, and all four wheels—were covered with eyes all the way around.
- 13As for the wheels, I heard them being called, 'O wheel.'
- 14Each cherub had four faces: the first was the face of a cherub, the second was the face of a man, the third was the face of a lion, and the fourth was the face of an eagle.
- 15Then the cherubim rose into the air. These were the same living creatures I had seen by the Chebar River.
- 16Whenever the cherubim moved, the wheels moved right alongside them. When the cherubim spread their wings to mount up from the earth, the wheels did not turn away from beside them.
- 17When the cherubim stood still, the wheels stood still. When the cherubim rose, the wheels rose with them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.
- 18Then the glory of the LORD moved away from the threshold of the temple and came to rest above the cherubim.
- 19As I watched, the cherubim lifted their wings and rose from the ground. When they went out, the wheels also were beside them, and they stood at the east gate doorway of the LORD’s temple, and the glory of the God of Israel was above them.
- 20These were the same living creatures I had seen beneath the God of Israel by the Chebar River. Now I recognized them — they were cherubim.
- 21Each one had four faces and four wings, and beneath their wings were what looked like human hands.
- 22Their faces looked exactly like the ones I had seen by the Chebar River — the same appearance, the same beings. Each one moved straight ahead in whatever direction it faced.
