- 1The word of the LORD came to me:
- 2"Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who are out there prophesying. Tell those who make up prophecies from their own imagination, 'Listen to the word of the LORD!
- 3This is what the Lord GOD says: How terrible it will be for the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing at all!
- 4Israel, your prophets are like foxes in the deserts.
- 5You haven't stepped into the gaps in the wall or repaired the defenses for the house of Israel so they could stand firm in battle on the day of the LORD.
- 6These prophets see false visions and speak lying predictions. They say, 'The LORD declares!' — but the LORD never sent them. Yet they've led people to expect that their words would come true.
- 7Haven't you seen false visions? Haven't you spoken lying predictions when you say, 'The LORD declares' — even though I never said a word?"
- 8"So this is what the Lord GOD says: Because you have spoken what is false and seen what is a lie, I am against you," declares the Lord GOD.
- 9My hand will come down on the prophets who see false visions and speak lying predictions. They will have no place in the council of my people. Their names will not be recorded in the register of the house of Israel, and they will not set foot in the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord GOD.
- 10Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, “Peace,” when there is no peace—and when one builds a wall, others smear it with poorly mixed mortar.
- 11Tell those who coat it with untempered mortar that it will fall: there will be a heavy rain, and you, O great hailstones, will fall; and a stormy wind will tear it apart.
- 12When the wall falls, won't people ask you, 'Where is the coating you applied to it?'
- 13"So this is what the Lord GOD says: In my fury I will unleash a violent wind. In my anger I will send a torrential downpour, and in my wrath, massive hailstones to destroy it completely.
- 14I will tear down the wall you have coated with untempered mortar and bring it to the ground, revealing its foundation. It will collapse, and you will be consumed within it. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
- 15Thus I will pour out my wrath on the wall and on those who plastered it with untempered mortar, and I will say to you, 'The wall is no more, nor are those who plastered it.'
- 16those prophets of Israel who prophesied about Jerusalem and saw visions of peace for her when there was no peace," declares the Lord GOD."
- 17"Now, son of man, turn your attention to the women among your people who prophesy from their own imagination. Prophesy against them
- 18and say, 'This is what the Lord GOD says: Woe to the women who sew pillows to all armholes and make kerchiefs for the head of every stature to hunt souls! Will you hunt the souls of my people and save the souls alive that come to you?'
- 19And will you dishonor me among my people for handfuls of barley and pieces of bread, to kill the souls that should not die and to spare the souls that should not live, by lying to my people who hear your lies?
- 20Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: “I am against the bands on your arms with which you hunt souls to make them fly. I will tear them from your arms and let the souls go, even the souls you hunt to make them fly.”
- 21I will also tear off your veils and rescue my people from your grip. They will no longer be your victims to hunt down. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
- 22With your lies you have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I did not make sad. You have strengthened the hands of the wicked so that he will not turn from his wicked way, by promising him life.
- 23Because of this, you will no longer see false visions or practice divination. I will rescue my people from your power. Then you will know that I am the LORD."
