  1. 1Then he brought me back to the entrance of the temple, and I saw water flowing out from under the threshold, heading east — since the temple faced east. The water came from under the right side of the temple, south of the altar.
  2. 2He led me out through the north gate and around the outside to the outer gate that faces east. There I could see water trickling out from the right side.
  3. 3The man walked eastward with his measuring line and measured off 1,000 cubits. Then he led me through the water — it was ankle-deep.
  4. 4He measured another 1,000 cubits and led me through again — the water was up to my knees. He measured another 1,000 cubits and brought me through — the water reached my waist.
  5. 5He measured one more 1,000 cubits, and now it had become a river I couldn't cross on foot. The water had risen deep enough to swim in — a river no one could wade through.
  6. 6He asked me, "Son of man, do you see this?" Then he brought me back to the bank of the river.
  7. 7When I got back, I saw a huge number of trees lining both sides of the riverbank.
  8. 8He told me, 'These waters flow toward the eastern region, go down into the desert, and enter the sea. When they reach the sea, the waters will be healed.'
  9. 9And it will come to pass that every living thing that moves, wherever the rivers come, will live. There will be a very great many fish, because these waters will come there; for they will be healed, and everything will live where the river comes.
  10. 10Fishermen will stand along its shores from En Gedi to En Eglaim, spreading their nets. The fish will be as varied and plentiful as those in the great sea.
  11. 11"But the swamps and marshes along the shore won't be healed — they'll be left for salt."
  12. 12Along both banks of the river, every kind of fruit tree will grow. Their leaves will never wither, and their fruit will never be exhausted. Every month they will produce new fruit, because the water flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for medicine.
  13. 13This is what the Lord GOD says: 'These are the borders for dividing the land among the twelve tribes of Israel: Joseph shall have two portions.'
  14. 14You will all inherit the land equally, as I raised my hand to give it to your ancestors. This land will be your inheritance.
  15. 15The northern border of the land will start at the great sea and follow the road to Hethlon, leading to Zedad.
  16. 16then through Hamath, Berothah, and Sibraim (which sits between the territory of Damascus and the territory of Hamath), and on to Hazer Hatticon, which is on the border of Hauran.
  17. 17So the northern boundary runs from the sea to Hazar Enon, along the border of Damascus, with the border of Hamath to the north. That is the north side.
  18. 18"On the east side, the boundary runs between Hauran, Damascus, Gilead, and the land of Israel, following the Jordan River from the northern border down to the eastern sea. That is the east side.
  19. 19On the south side, the boundary runs from Tamar to the waters of strife in Kadesh, then along the river to the great sea. This is the south side.
  20. 20The west side will be the great sea, from the border to a point opposite Hamath. This is the west side.
  21. 21"You are to divide this land among yourselves according to the tribes of Israel."
  22. 22"Distribute it by lot as an inheritance for yourselves and for the foreigners living among you who have raised children in your land. Treat them as native-born Israelites — they will receive an inheritance alongside you among the tribes of Israel."
  23. 23"Whatever tribe a foreigner lives among, that is where you must give him his inheritance," declares the Lord GOD.
