- 1And you, son of man, take a sharp knife and a barber's razor, and pass them over your head and beard. Then take scales to weigh and divide the hair.
- 2When the days of the siege are complete, burn a third of the hair with fire in the middle of the city. Take another third and strike it with a sword all around. Scatter the last third to the wind, and I will pursue them with a sword.
- 3But take a small number of hairs from it and tuck them into the folds of your robe.
- 4Then take some of them again, throw them into the middle of the fire, and burn them in the fire. From them a fire will come out into all the house of Israel.
- 5The Lord GOD says: "This represents Jerusalem. I placed her at the center of the nations, with countries all around her.
- 6But she has turned my judgments into wickedness more than the nations, and my statutes more than the countries around her. They have rejected my judgments and statutes and have not followed them.
- 7Therefore, this is what the Lord GOD says: Because you have multiplied more than the nations around you, and have not followed my statutes, nor kept my judgments, nor acted according to the judgments of the nations around you,
- 8the Lord GOD declares: I myself am against you. I will carry out judgment on you right there where the nations can see it.
- 9Because of all your abominations, I will do something to you that I have never done before and will never do again.
- 10Therefore, fathers will eat their sons among you, and sons will eat their fathers. I will execute judgments on you, and I will scatter your entire remnant to all the winds.
- 11As surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, because you have defiled my sanctuary with all your detestable things and abominations, I will also diminish you; my eye will not spare, nor will I have any pity.
- 12One third of you will die by plague, and by famine they will be consumed among you. One third will fall by the sword around you. I will scatter one third to every wind, and I will draw out a sword after them.
- 13Then my anger will be spent, and I will cause my fury to rest upon them, and I will be comforted. They will know that I, the LORD, have spoken it in my zeal when I have finished my fury in them.
- 14I will turn you into a wasteland and an object of scorn among the surrounding nations, visible to everyone who passes by.
- 15You will become a disgrace, a mockery, an instruction, and a horror to the nations around you — when I execute judgments on you in anger, fury, and furious rebukes. I, the LORD, have spoken.
- 16When I send on them the evil arrows of famine that are for their destruction, which I will send to destroy you, I will make the famine worse and cut off your supply of bread.
- 17I will send famine and savage wild animals against you, and they will rob you of your children. Plague and bloodshed will sweep through you, and I will bring the sword down on you. I, the LORD, have spoken."
