  1. 1The word of the LORD came to me:
  2. 2"Son of man, turn and face the mountains of Israel and prophesy against them.
  3. 3Say to them: 'Mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD! This is what the Lord GOD says to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys: I myself am bringing a sword against you, and I will destroy your high places.
  4. 4Your altars will be desolate, and your images will be broken. I will cast down your slain men before your idols.
  5. 5I will lay the dead bodies of the children of Israel in front of their idols and scatter your bones all around your altars.
  6. 6Everywhere you live, the cities will be demolished, and the high places will be torn down. Your altars will be wrecked and abandoned, your idols will be broken and cease, your incense altars will be chopped down, and your works will be abolished.
  7. 7The slain will fall among you, and you will know that I am the LORD.
  8. 8Yet I will leave a remnant, so that some of you will escape the sword among the nations when you are scattered through the countries.
  9. 9Those of you who escape will remember me among the nations where they are taken captive, because I am broken by their prostituting heart, which turned away from me, and by their eyes, which prostituted themselves after their idols. They will loathe themselves for the evils they have committed in all their disgusting practices.
  10. 10Then they will know that I am the LORD and that I did not speak in vain when I said I would bring this disaster on them.
  11. 11This is what the Lord GOD says: Strike with your hand and stomp with your foot, and say, 'Alas for all the evil abominations of the house of Israel!' For they will fall by the sword, by famine, and by plague.
  12. 12Those far away will die of pestilence; those nearby will fall by the sword; and those who remain and are besieged will die of famine. This is how I will accomplish my fury upon them.
  13. 13Then you will know that I am the LORD, when their slain men are among their idols, around their altars, on every high hill, on all the mountaintops, under every green tree, and under every thick oak—the places where they offered sweet-smelling sacrifices to all their idols.
  14. 14So I will stretch out my hand against them and make the land desolate, yes, more desolate than the wilderness toward Diblath, in all their habitations. Then they will know that I am the LORD.
