  1. 1The word of the LORD also came to me, saying,
  2. 2Also, son of man, thus says the Lord GOD to the land of Israel: An end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land.
  3. 3Now the end is upon you, and I will unleash my anger against you and judge you according to your ways. I will repay you for all your abominations.
  4. 4I will not look on you with pity or spare you. I will repay you for the way you've lived, and your abominations will be right there among you. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
  5. 5This is what the Lord GOD says: “A disaster—a single, unique disaster—has come.”
  6. 6The end has come. The end has come! It has awakened against you. Look — it's here.
  7. 7Morning has come for you who live in the land. The time has come; the day of trouble is near—not the sounding again of the mountains.
  8. 8Very soon I will pour out my fury on you and spend my full anger against you. I will judge you by how you have lived and make you pay for every disgusting thing you've done.
  9. 9My eye will not spare you, and I will not have pity. I will repay you according to your ways and the disgusting practices among you. Then you will know that I am the LORD who strikes.
  10. 10Look, the day has come; the morning has arrived. The rod has blossomed, pride has budded.
  11. 11Violence has risen up into a rod of wickedness: none of them will remain, nor their multitude, nor any of theirs: there will be no wailing for them.
  12. 12The time has come; the day is near. Let not the buyer rejoice, nor the seller mourn, for wrath is on all their multitude.
  13. 13For the seller will not return to what he sold, even if they are still alive, because the vision concerns the whole multitude and will not return. No one will strengthen himself in the sin of his life.
  14. 14They've blown the trumpet and made everything ready, but no one marches out to fight, because my wrath is against the whole crowd.
  15. 15"Outside the city, the sword waits. Inside the city, plague and famine. Anyone in the open fields will die by the sword, and anyone in the city will be consumed by famine and disease.
  16. 16Some will escape and flee to the mountains, but they'll be like doves in the valleys — all of them moaning, each one over their own sin.
  17. 17Every hand will go limp, and every knee will turn weak as water.
  18. 18They will dress in sackcloth, and horror will overwhelm them. Shame will cover every face, and every head will be shaved bare.
  19. 19They will throw their silver into the streets, and their gold will be treated like garbage. Their silver and gold won't be able to save them on the day of the LORD's wrath. It won't fill their stomachs or satisfy their souls, because their wealth became the very thing that tripped them into sin.
  20. 20As for the beauty of his ornament, he set it in majesty, but they made images of their disgusting and detestable things in it. Therefore I have put it far from them.
  21. 21I will hand it over to foreigners as plunder and to the most wicked people on earth as loot, and they will defile it.
  22. 22I will turn my face away from them, and they will pollute my secret place. Robbers will enter and defile it.
  23. 23Make a chain, for the land is full of bloody crimes, and the city is full of violence.
  24. 24Therefore, I will bring the worst of the heathen, and they will take over their houses. I will also put an end to the pride of the strong, and their holy places will be defiled.
  25. 25Destruction is coming; they will seek peace, but there will be none.
  26. 26One disaster will pile on top of another, and rumor will follow rumor. They will beg the prophets for a vision, but the priests will have no instruction to give, and the elders will have no counsel to offer.
  27. 27The king will be in mourning, the prince will be wrapped in despair, and the hands of the common people will tremble with fear. I will deal with them exactly as they have lived, and I will judge them by their own standards. Then they will know that I am the LORD."
