  1. 1Send the lamb to the ruler of the land from Sela to the wilderness, to the mount of the daughter of Zion.
  2. 2The daughters of Moab will be like a wandering bird cast out of the nest, at the fords of Arnon.
  3. 3Give counsel, act with justice; make your shadow like night in the middle of the day; hide the outcasts; do not betray those who wander.
  4. 4"Let my outcasts find shelter with you, Moab. Be a hiding place for them from the destroyer." For the oppressor will come to an end, the destruction will stop, and those who trample others will be wiped from the land.
  5. 5Then a throne will be established through mercy, and on it — in the tent of David — one will sit who rules with truth, who pursues justice and is quick to do what is right.
  6. 6We have heard of Moab's pride; he is very proud: his haughtiness, his pride, and his wrath. But his lies will not stand.
  7. 7Because of this, Moab will cry out for Moab; everyone will wail. You will mourn for the foundations of Kir Hareseth, for they are utterly destroyed.
  8. 8The fields of Heshbon are withering, and the vineyards of Sibmah are ruined. The lords of the heathen have smashed their finest vines—vines that once stretched as far as Jazer, spread into the wilderness, and sent their branches all the way across the sea.
  9. 9Therefore I will weep with the weeping of Jazer for the vine of Sibmah; I will water you with my tears, O Heshbon and Elealeh: for the shouting for your summer fruits and for your harvest has fallen.
  10. 10Gladness is taken away, and joy out of the plentiful field; and in the vineyards there will be no singing, neither will there be shouting; the treaders will tread out no wine in their presses; I have made their vintage shouting to cease.
  11. 11My heart groans like a harp for Moab; deep inside, I ache for Kir Heres.
  12. 12When Moab is exhausted on the high place and goes to his sanctuary to pray, he will not succeed.
  13. 13This is the message the LORD spoke about Moab long ago.
  14. 14But now the LORD has spoken, saying, Within three years, as the years of a hired worker, the glory of Moab will be despised, along with all its great multitude; and the remnant will be very small and weak.
