- 1Woe to the land of shadowing wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia:
- 2It sends ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of reeds on the waters, saying, "Go, you swift messengers, to a nation scattered and peeled, to a people feared from their beginning until now; a nation measured out and trampled down, whose land the rivers have spoiled!"
- 3Everyone on earth, all who live in this world — when a banner is raised on the mountains, look! When a trumpet sounds, listen!
- 4For the LORD said to me, 'I will rest and observe from my dwelling place, like clear heat on herbs, and like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.'
- 5For before the harvest, when the bud is perfect and the sour grape is ripening in the flower, he will cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks and take away and cut down the branches.
- 6They will be left for the birds of the mountains and the beasts of the earth. The birds will spend the summer on them, and all the beasts of the earth will spend the winter on them.
- 7At that time a present will be brought to the LORD of hosts of a people scattered and peeled, and from a people feared from their beginning until now; a nation measured out and trampled under foot, whose land the rivers have spoiled, to the place of the name of the LORD of hosts, Mount Zion.
