- 1The wilderness and the dry, desolate land will be glad. The desert will rejoice and burst into bloom like a rose.
- 2It will overflow with blossoms, breaking out in joy and singing. It will be given the glory of Lebanon, the splendor of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the LORD and the excellency of our God.
- 3Strengthen the hands that are weak. Steady the knees that are trembling.
- 4Tell those with fearful hearts, 'Be strong, do not be afraid! Look, your God will come with vengeance, even God with recompense; he will come to save you.'
- 5Then the eyes of the blind will be opened, and the ears of the deaf will be unstopped.
- 6Then the lame will leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute will sing. Water will burst forth in the wilderness, and streams will flow in the desert.
- 7The scorching sand will become a pool, and the parched ground will bubble with springs. Where jackals once made their dens, grass and reeds and rushes will grow.
- 8A highway will be there, and a way, and it will be called The Way of Holiness. The unclean will not travel on it, but it will be for those: travelers, though fools, will not go astray on it.
- 9No lion will be there, nor will any ravenous beast go up on it; it will not be found there. But the redeemed will walk there.
- 10Those the LORD has ransomed will return. They will enter Zion singing, crowned with everlasting joy. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will disappear.
