- 1In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the LORD sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
- 2Above it stood the seraphim: each had six wings; with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.
- 3They called out to one another, "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts! The whole earth is full of his glory!"
- 4The doorposts shook at the voice of him who cried, and the house was filled with smoke.
- 5Then I said, "Woe is me! I am undone, for I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts."
- 6Then one of the seraphim flew to me carrying a burning coal he had picked up from the altar with a pair of tongs.
- 7He laid it on my mouth and said, "Look, this has touched your lips. Your iniquity is taken away, and your sin is purged."
- 8Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?" I answered, "Here I am. Send me!"
- 9He said, "Go and tell this people: 'You will listen and listen but never understand. You will look and look but never grasp what you see.'
- 10Make the heart of this people insensitive, their ears heavy, and their eyes shut; so they won't see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.
- 11I asked, "Lord, how long?" He answered, "Until the cities are ruined without inhabitants, the houses are empty, and the land is utterly desolate—
- 12And the LORD will remove people far away, and there will be a great abandonment in the middle of the land.
- 13But yet a tenth will remain in it, and it will return and be consumed, like a terebinth or an oak, whose substance remains in them when they shed their leaves: so the holy seed will be its substance.
