  1. 1The LORD spoke to Moses and said,
  2. 2"Tell the people of Israel: When someone makes a special vow to dedicate a person to the LORD, the following values apply.
  3. 3Your valuation for a male between 20 and 60 years old shall be 50 shekels of silver, measured by the sanctuary shekel.
  4. 4A female in that same age range shall be valued at 30 shekels.
  5. 5For anyone between 5 and 20 years old, the value shall be 20 shekels for a male and 10 shekels for a female.
  6. 6For a child between 1 month and 5 years old, the value shall be 5 shekels of silver for a male and 3 shekels of silver for a female.
  7. 7For anyone 60 years old or older, the value shall be 15 shekels for a male and 10 shekels for a female.
  8. 8If the person who made the vow is too poor to pay the set amount, they must appear before the priest, and the priest will set a value based on what that person can afford.
  9. 9If someone vows to give the LORD an animal that is acceptable as an offering, that animal becomes holy the moment it is given.
  10. 10He must not alter or replace it, neither a good one for a bad one nor a bad one for a good one. If he does exchange one animal for another, both the original and the substitute shall be holy.
  11. 11If the animal is an unclean one that cannot be offered as a sacrifice to the LORD, the person must bring it before the priest.
  12. 12The priest will evaluate it as either good or bad, and whatever value the priest assigns, so it shall be.
  13. 13If the owner wants to buy it back, he must pay the priest's value plus an additional 20 percent.
  14. 14When someone dedicates their house as holy to the LORD, the priest will evaluate it as good or bad. Whatever value the priest assigns will stand.
  15. 15If the person who dedicated the house wants to buy it back, he must pay the assessed value plus an additional 20 percent, and the house will be his again.
  16. 16If a man dedicates to the LORD some part of a field he possesses, your valuation shall be according to the seed required for it: a homer of barley seed shall be valued at 50 shekels of silver.
  17. 17If the field is dedicated starting from the Year of Jubilee, the full assessed value applies.
  18. 18But if the field is dedicated after the Jubilee, the priest will calculate the price based on the number of years remaining until the next Jubilee, reducing the value accordingly.
  19. 19If the person who dedicated the field wants to buy it back, he must pay the assessed value plus an additional 20 percent, and the field will be guaranteed back to him.
  20. 20However, if he doesn't buy it back, or if he has already sold the field to someone else, it can never be redeemed.
  21. 21When the field is released in the Jubilee, it will become permanently holy to the LORD, like a field that has been completely devoted. It will become the property of the priests.
  22. 22If someone dedicates to the LORD a field they purchased — one that isn't part of their family inheritance —
  23. 23the priest will calculate its value based on the years remaining until the Jubilee. The person must pay that amount on the same day as a holy contribution to the LORD.
  24. 24In the Year of Jubilee, the field shall return to the one from whom it was bought — the one to whom the possession of the land belonged.
  25. 25All valuations must be measured by the sanctuary standard, where 1 shekel equals 20 gerahs.
  26. 26No one may dedicate a firstborn animal to the LORD, because the firstborn already belongs to the LORD — whether it is an ox or a sheep, it is the LORD's.
  27. 27If the firstborn is from an unclean animal, the owner may buy it back at the assessed value plus an additional 20 percent. If it isn't bought back, it will be sold at the assessed value.
  28. 28However, anything that a person permanently devotes to the LORD — whether a person, an animal, or family land — cannot be sold or bought back. Everything permanently devoted is most holy to the LORD.
  29. 29No person who has been devoted shall be redeemed; they must be put to death.
  30. 30A tenth of everything the land produces — whether grain from the fields or fruit from the trees — belongs to the LORD. It is holy to the LORD.
  31. 31If someone wants to buy back any part of their tithe, they must pay its value plus an additional 20 percent.
  32. 32Every tenth animal from the herds or flocks — each one that passes under the shepherd's counting rod — is holy to the LORD.
  33. 33The owner must not pick through the animals to see which is good or bad, and must not make substitutions. If anyone does swap one animal for another, both animals become holy and neither can be bought back."
  34. 34These are the commands the LORD gave to Moses for the people of Israel at Mount Sinai.
