  1. 1The LORD spoke to Moses and said,
  2. 2Tell the children of Israel: If a soul sins by mistake against any of the LORD's commands about things that must not be done, and does any of them:
  3. 3If the anointed priest sins and brings guilt on the people, he must bring a young bull without any defect to the LORD as a sin offering.
  4. 4He must bring the bull to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting before the LORD, lay his hand on the bull's head, and slaughter it there in the LORD's presence.
  5. 5The anointed priest must then take some of the bull's blood and carry it into the Tent of Meeting.
  6. 6He must dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle it 7 times before the LORD, in front of the veil of the sanctuary.
  7. 7Then the priest must smear some of the blood on the horns of the incense altar that stands before the LORD inside the Tent of Meeting. He must pour out the rest of the bull's blood at the base of the burnt offering altar, which stands at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.
  8. 8He must remove all the fat from the bull of the sin offering — the fat covering the internal organs and all the fat attached to them,
  9. 9both kidneys with the fat around them near the loins, and the covering of the liver, which he must remove along with the kidneys.
  10. 10These parts must be removed just as they are from a bull offered as a peace offering. Then the priest must burn them on the altar of burnt offering.
  11. 11But the bull's hide, all its meat, its head, its legs, its internal organs, and its dung —
  12. 12The whole bull must be carried outside the camp to a clean place where ashes are dumped. There it must be burned on a wood fire, where the ashes are dumped.
  13. 13If the entire community of Israel sins unintentionally — even if the assembly doesn't realize it — and they break any of the LORD's commands by doing something that should not be done, they are guilty.
  14. 14When the sin they committed becomes known, the assembly must bring a young bull as a sin offering and present it before the Tent of Meeting.
  15. 15The elders of the community must lay their hands on the bull's head before the LORD, and the bull must be slaughtered in the LORD's presence.
  16. 16The anointed priest must bring some of the bull's blood into the Tent of Meeting.
  17. 17He must dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle it 7 times before the LORD, in front of the veil.
  18. 18Then he must smear some of the blood on the horns of the altar that stands before the LORD inside the Tent of Meeting. He must pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the burnt offering altar at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.
  19. 19He must remove all the fat from the bull and burn it on the altar.
  20. 20He must handle this bull exactly the same way he handled the bull for the priest's sin offering. Through this process, the priest will make atonement for the people, and they will be forgiven.
  21. 21Then he must carry the bull outside the camp and burn it, just as he burned the first bull. This is the sin offering for the entire assembly.
  22. 22When a leader sins by unintentionally breaking any of the commands of the LORD his God — doing something that should not be done — he is guilty.
  23. 23When the sin he committed is brought to his attention, he must bring as his offering a male goat without any defect.
  24. 24He must lay his hand on the goat's head and slaughter it at the same place where burnt offerings are killed before the LORD. This is a sin offering.
  25. 25The priest must take some of the blood from the sin offering with his finger and smear it on the horns of the burnt offering altar. Then he must pour out the rest of the blood at the base of that altar.
  26. 26He must burn all the fat on the altar, just like the fat from a peace offering. In this way the priest will make atonement for the leader's sin, and he will be forgiven.
  27. 27If an ordinary person sins unintentionally by breaking any of the LORD's commands — doing something that should not be done — that person is guilty.
  28. 28When the sin they committed is brought to their attention, they must bring a female goat without any defect as their offering for that sin.
  29. 29They must lay their hand on the head of the sin offering and slaughter it at the place where burnt offerings are killed.
  30. 30The priest must take some of its blood with his finger and smear it on the horns of the burnt offering altar. Then he must pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar.
  31. 31He must remove all the fat, just as fat is removed from a peace offering, and the priest must burn it on the altar as a pleasing aroma to the LORD. In this way the priest will make atonement for that person, and they will be forgiven.
  32. 32If someone brings a lamb as a sin offering, it must be a female without any defect.
  33. 33They must lay their hand on the head of the sin offering and slaughter it as a sin offering at the place where burnt offerings are killed.
  34. 34The priest must take some of the blood from the sin offering with his finger and smear it on the horns of the burnt offering altar. Then he must pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar.
  35. 35He must remove all the fat, just as the fat is removed from a lamb offered as a peace offering. The priest must burn these pieces on the altar along with the other fire offerings to the LORD. In this way the priest will make atonement for the sin that person committed, and they will be forgiven."
