  1. 1When Jesus finished teaching these things, he left Galilee and traveled to the region of Judea on the other side of the Jordan River.
  2. 2Large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.
  3. 3Some Pharisees came to him, trying to trap him. They asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?"
  4. 4Jesus answered, "Haven't you read that the one who created them in the beginning made them male and female,
  5. 5and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united with his wife, and the two will become one flesh'?
  6. 6So they are no longer two people, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, no one should tear apart."
  7. 7They pressed him, "Then why did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?"
  8. 8Jesus told them, "Moses allowed you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning."
  9. 9I tell you that whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery. Whoever marries a woman who has been divorced commits adultery.
  10. 10His disciples said to him, "If that's how it is between a husband and wife, it's better not to marry at all."
  11. 11Jesus replied, "Not everyone can accept this teaching — only those to whom it has been given.
  12. 12For there are some eunuchs who were born that way from their mother's womb, and there are some eunuchs who were made eunuchs by others, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Whoever can accept this should accept it.
  13. 13Then people brought little children to Jesus so he could place his hands on them and pray. But the disciples rebuked them.
  14. 14Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me. Don't stop them, because the kingdom of heaven belongs to people like these."
  15. 15He placed his hands on the children, and then he left that place.
  16. 16A man came up to Jesus and asked, "Good Teacher, what good thing must I do to receive eternal life?"
  17. 17He said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except one—that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”
  18. 18"Which ones?" the man asked. Jesus said, "'Do not murder.' 'Do not commit adultery.' 'Do not steal.' 'Do not give false testimony.'
  19. 19'Honor your father and mother.' And, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"
  20. 20The young man said, "I've kept all of these since I was a boy. What am I still missing?"
  21. 21Jesus told him, "If you want to be perfect, go and sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come and follow me."
  22. 22But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful because he had great possessions.
  23. 23Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly, I tell you that a rich man will enter the kingdom of heaven with difficulty.”
  24. 24Let me say it again — it's easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter God's kingdom."
  25. 25When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, "Who then can be saved?"
  26. 26Jesus looked at them and said, "For people, this is impossible. But with God, all things are possible."
  27. 27Peter spoke up and said, "Look, we've given up everything to follow you. What will we get in return?"
  28. 28Jesus told them, "I tell you the truth: you who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man sits on the throne of his glory, will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel."
  29. 29Everyone who has given up houses, brothers, sisters, father, mother, wife, children, or lands for my name's sake will receive a hundredfold and will inherit everlasting life.
  30. 30But many who are first will end up last, and many who are last will end up first."
