1. 1After the Sabbath ended, as it began to dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb.
2. 2Suddenly there was a violent earthquake, because an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled the stone away from the entrance, and sat on it.
3. 3His face blazed like lightning, and his clothes were as white as snow.
4. 4The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and appeared like dead men.
5. 5The angel spoke to the women: "Don't be afraid. I know you're looking for Jesus, who was crucified."
6. 6"He isn't here — he has risen, just as he said he would! Come, see the place where the Lord was lying."
7. 7"Now go quickly and tell his disciples: 'He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there.' Remember, I've told you this."
8. 8The women quickly left the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples.
9. 9As they went to tell his disciples, Jesus met them and said, 'Greetings.' They came and held him by the feet, and worshiped him.
10. 10Jesus told them, "Don't be afraid. Go tell my brothers to head to Galilee — they will see me there."
11. 11While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and reported everything that had happened to the chief priests.
12. 12The chief priests met with the elders and came up with a plan. They paid the soldiers a large sum of money
13. 13saying, “Say, ‘His disciples came during the night and stole him while we were asleep.’”
14. 14And if this comes to the governor's ears, we will persuade him and protect you.
15. 15So the soldiers took the money and did what they were told. This story has been widely circulated among the Jewish people to this day.
16. 16Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.
17. 17When they saw him, they worshiped him — though some still had doubts.
18. 18Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me."
19. 19Go therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
20. 20and teaching them to observe all things I have commanded you. And know this: I am with you always, even to the end of the world. Amen.
