- 1Then I said, "Listen, you leaders of Jacob and rulers of the house of Israel! Shouldn't you know justice?"
- 2You hate what is good and love what is evil; you tear the skin from them and strip the flesh from their bones.
- 3You devour my people's flesh, flay their skin from off them, and break their bones. You chop them up like meat for a pot, like flesh in a cauldron.
- 4Then they will cry out to the LORD, but he will not answer them. He will hide his face from them because of the evil things they have done.
- 5This is what the LORD says about the prophets who lead my people astray: They bite with their teeth and cry, 'Peace,' but if someone does not give them what they want, they prepare for war against him.
- 6Therefore, night will come upon you, and you will not have a vision; it will be dark for you, and you will not be able to divine. The sun will set on the prophets, and the day will be dark for them.
- 7The seers will be put to shame, and the diviners will be humiliated. They will all cover their lips, because there is no answer from God.
- 8But as for me, I am filled with power by the spirit of the LORD, filled with justice and strength, to confront Jacob with his rebellion and Israel with his sin.
- 9Listen to this, you leaders of Jacob, you rulers of Israel — you who despise justice and twist everything that is right.
- 10You build up Zion with bloodshed and Jerusalem with wickedness.
- 11Her leaders judge for reward, her priests teach for payment, and her prophets divine for money. Yet they lean on the LORD and say, 'Is not the LORD among us? No evil can come upon us.'
- 12Because of you, Zion will be plowed up like an open field. Jerusalem will be reduced to piles of rubble, and the temple hill will become nothing but a wooded ridge.
