1. 1The words of King Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.
2. 2"What, my son? And what, son of my womb? And what, son of my vows?
3. 3Do not give your strength to women, nor follow paths that destroy kings.
4. 4It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, nor for princes strong drink,
5. 5lest they drink and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.
6. 6Give strong drink to him who is ready to perish, and wine to those who are of heavy hearts.
7. 7Let him drink and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
8. 8Speak up for the mute in the cause of all who are appointed to destruction.
9. 9Speak up, judge fairly, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.
10. 10Who can find a virtuous woman? Her worth is far above rubies.
11. 11Her husband trusts her completely, so he will have no need of spoil.
12. 12She will do him good and not harm all the days of her life.
13. 13She seeks wool and flax and works eagerly with her hands.
14. 14She is like merchant ships; she brings her food from far away.
15. 15She gets up while it is still night, and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens.
16. 16She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands, she plants a vineyard.
17. 17She prepares herself with strength and makes her arms strong.
18. 18She realizes that her merchandise is good; her lamp does not go out at night.
19. 19She puts her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
20. 20She extends her hand to the poor; yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy.
21. 21She is not afraid of the snow for her household because all her household are clothed with scarlet.
22. 22She makes herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
23. 23Her husband is known at the city gates, where he sits with the elders of the land.
24. 24She makes fine linen and sells it, and delivers belts to the merchant.
25. 25Strength and honor are her clothing, and she will rejoice in the future.
26. 26She opens her mouth with wisdom, and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
27. 27She looks well to the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28. 28Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also praises her.
29. 29Many daughters have done virtuously, but you excel them all.
30. 30Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.
31. 31Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.
