  1. 1Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they would be saved.
  2. 2I can testify that they have a zeal for God, but it is not based on knowledge.
  3. 3Since they did not know God's righteousness and sought to establish their own righteousness, they did not submit to God's righteousness.
  4. 4For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
  5. 5Moses writes about the righteousness that comes from the law: "The person who does these things will live by them."
  6. 6But the righteousness that comes from faith says, "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?'" — that is, to bring Christ down —
  7. 7"or 'Who will descend into the deep?'" — that is, to bring Christ up from the dead.
  8. 8But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" — that is, the word of faith that we proclaim.
  9. 9If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
  10. 10For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
  11. 11For Scripture says, "Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame."
  12. 12There is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord is Lord of all, and is rich toward all who call on him.
  13. 13For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
  14. 14How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how will they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without someone preaching?
  15. 15And how will they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!"
  16. 16But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our report?"
  17. 17So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
  18. 18But I ask, have they not heard? Indeed they have: "Their sound has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world."
  19. 19But I ask, did Israel not understand? First Moses says, "I will provoke you to jealousy by those who are not a nation; by a foolish nation I will anger you."
  20. 20Then Isaiah is very bold and says, "I was found by those who did not seek me; I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me."
  21. 21But regarding Israel he says, "All day long I have stretched out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people."
