  1. 1So I ask: has God rejected his people? Absolutely not! I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin.
  2. 2God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew. Don't you know what Scripture says about Elijah? He pleaded with God against Israel, saying,
  3. 3'Lord, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars. I am the only one left, and they are seeking my life.'
  4. 4But what was God's answer to him? 'I have reserved for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.'
  5. 5In the same way, at this present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.
  6. 6And if it is by grace, then it is no longer based on works — otherwise grace would no longer be grace. But if it is by works, then it is no longer grace — otherwise work would no longer be work.
  7. 7What then? Israel did not obtain what it was seeking, but the chosen ones obtained it, and the rest were hardened.
  8. 8As it is written, 'God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that would not see and ears that would not hear, down to this very day.'
  9. 9And David says, 'Let their table become a snare and a trap, a stumbling block and a repayment to them.
  10. 10Let their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and bend their backs forever.'
  11. 11So I ask: did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Absolutely not! But through their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles, to provoke them to jealousy.
  12. 12Now if their transgression means riches for the world, and their loss means riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their fullness bring!
  13. 13I am speaking to you Gentiles. Since I am the apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry,
  14. 14in the hope that I may somehow provoke my own people to jealousy and save some of them.
  15. 15For if their rejection means the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance mean but life from the dead?
  16. 16If the firstfruit is holy, then the whole batch is holy. And if the root is holy, so are the branches.
  17. 17Now if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among them and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree,
  18. 18do not boast over the branches. If you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you.
  19. 19You will say then, 'Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in.'
  20. 20True. They were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but fear.
  21. 21For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.
  22. 22Consider then the kindness and severity of God: severity toward those who fell, but kindness toward you — provided you continue in his kindness. Otherwise you too will be cut off.
  23. 23And if they do not persist in unbelief, they will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.
  24. 24For if you were cut from what is by nature a wild olive tree and grafted, contrary to nature, into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these natural branches be grafted into their own olive tree?
  25. 25Brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, so that you will not be wise in your own conceit: a partial blindness has come upon Israel until the fulness of the Gentiles has come in.
  26. 26And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: 'The Deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn away ungodliness from Jacob.
  27. 27And this is my covenant with them, when I take away their sins.'
  28. 28Regarding the gospel, they are enemies for your sake. But regarding election, they are beloved for the sake of the fathers.
  29. 29For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.
  30. 30For just as you were once disobedient to God but have now received mercy because of their disobedience,
  31. 31so they too have now been disobedient, so that by the mercy shown to you they also may receive mercy.
  32. 32For God has confined all in disobedience, so that he might have mercy on all.
  33. 33Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways beyond tracing out!
  34. 34For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?
  35. 35Or who has first given to him, that it should be repaid to him?
  36. 36For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.
