- 1Welcome anyone who is weak in the faith, but not for the purpose of arguing over doubtful matters.
- 2One person has the faith to eat anything, while someone who is weak eats only vegetables.
- 3The person who eats everything should not look down on the one who doesn't, and the one who doesn't eat everything should not judge the one who does — because God has accepted that person.
- 4Who are you to judge someone else's servant? It is before their own master that they stand or fall. And they will be upheld, because God is able to make them stand.
- 5One person esteems one day above another, while another esteems every day alike. Let each person be fully convinced in their own mind.
- 6The person who regards the day regards it for the Lord. The person who eats does so for the Lord, since they give thanks to God. And the person who does not eat refrains for the Lord, and gives thanks to God.
- 7None of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself.
- 8If we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord. So whether we live or die, we are the Lord's.
- 9For this is why Christ both died and rose and lived again — so that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living.
- 10But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
- 11For it is written, 'As I live, says the Lord, every knee will bow to me, and every tongue will confess to God.'
- 12So then, each one of us will give an account of himself to God.
- 13Therefore, let us no longer judge one another. Instead, decide this — not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in your brother's way.
- 14I know and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself. But to anyone who considers something unclean, to that person it is unclean.
- 15If your brother is grieved by what you eat, you are no longer walking in love. Do not destroy with your food someone for whom Christ died.
- 16Do not let your good be spoken of as evil.
- 17For the kingdom of God is not about food and drink, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.
- 18For whoever serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by people.
- 19So then, let us pursue the things that make for peace and the things that build one another up.
- 20Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All things indeed are pure, but it is wrong for the person who eats while causing someone to stumble.
- 21It is good not to eat meat, or drink wine, or do anything by which your brother stumbles, or is offended, or is made weak.
- 22Do you have faith? Keep it to yourself before God. Blessed is the one who does not condemn himself in what he approves.
- 23But the one who doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith. And whatever is not from faith is sin.
