41So they took away the stone. Jesus looked up and said, "Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the sake of the people standing here, so that they may believe that you sent me."

What happened

Before calling Lazarus out of the tomb, Jesus looked up and thanked the Father for hearing him. He said he spoke aloud so that the people standing there would believe the Father had sent him.
