Acts 2:14–41
14Then Peter stood up with the eleven, raised his voice, and said to them: 'Men of Judaea and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to my words.' 15These people aren't drunk, as you're assuming. It's only 9 in the morning! 16No, this is what the prophet Joel spoke about: 17'In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams. 18Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. 19I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below — blood, fire, and billowing smoke. 20The sun will turn to darkness, and the moon to blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord arrives. 21And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.' 22Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth was a man approved by God among you through miracles, wonders, and signs, which God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves also know. 23This man was handed over to you by God's deliberate plan and foreknowledge, and you used lawless men to nail him to a cross and kill him. 24But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because death could not hold him. 25David said this about him: 'I always kept the Lord before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. 26That is why my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices. Even my body will rest in hope, 27because you will not leave my soul in hell, nor will you allow your Holy One to see decay. 28You have shown me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.' 29"Brothers, let me speak plainly about the patriarch David: he died, he was buried, and his tomb is still here among us to this day. 30But David was a prophet, and he knew that God had sworn an oath to him, that from the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, God would raise up Christ to sit on his throne. 31Foreseeing this, he spoke of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, nor did his flesh experience decay. 32God raised this Jesus to life, and every one of us is a witness to it. 33Therefore, being exalted to the right hand of God and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out what you now see and hear. 34David himself did not ascend into the heavens, yet he said, 'The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand 35until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet."' 36"So let everyone in Israel know this beyond any doubt: God has made this Jesus — the very one you crucified — both Lord and Christ." 37When the people heard this, it cut them to the heart. They cried out to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what should we do?" 38Peter answered, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." 39This promise is for you, for your children, and for everyone who is far away — for everyone the LORD our God will call." 40Peter kept urging them with many more words, pleading, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation!" 41Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand souls were added to their number that day.
