  1. 1On the 12th day of the 10th month, in the 10th year, the word of the LORD came to me:
  2. 2"Son of man, turn your attention toward Pharaoh king of Egypt and prophesy against him and against all of Egypt.
  3. 3Tell him, 'This is what the Lord GOD says: I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon lying in the middle of your rivers, who has said, "My river is mine, and I made it for myself."
  4. 4I will put hooks in your jaws and make the fish of your rivers cling to your scales. Then I will drag you up out of your rivers, with all those fish stuck to you.
  5. 5I will throw you into the wilderness, you and all the fish from your rivers. You will fall in the open fields, and no one will gather you or pick you up. I have given you as meat to the beasts of the field and to the fowls of the heaven.
  6. 6Then all the inhabitants of Egypt will know that I am the LORD, because they have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel.
  7. 7When they took hold of you by your hand, you broke and tore all their shoulder: and when they leaned on you, you broke and made all their hips give way.
  8. 8So this is what the Lord GOD says: I am bringing a sword against you, and I will cut off both people and animals from your land.
  9. 9Egypt will become an empty wasteland. Then they will know that I am the LORD. Because Pharaoh said, 'The river is mine — I made it,'
  10. 10I am against you and against your rivers. I will make the land of Egypt completely desolate, from the tower of Syene to the border of Ethiopia.
  11. 11No person will walk through it, and no animal will cross it. It will be completely uninhabited for 40 years.
  12. 12I will make Egypt a wasteland among ruined nations, and its cities will sit desolate among destroyed cities for 40 years. I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them across foreign lands."
  13. 13"But this is what the Lord GOD says: After 40 years, I will gather the Egyptians from the nations where they were scattered.
  14. 14I will bring them back from captivity and return them to Pathros, the land where they were born. But there they will be only a minor kingdom.
  15. 15Egypt will be the weakest of all kingdoms. It will never again rise above the other nations. I will make it so small that it will never again dominate other peoples.
  16. 16It will no longer be the confidence of the house of Israel, which brings their iniquity to remembrance when they look after them: but they will know that I am the Lord GOD.
  17. 17On the 1st day of the 1st month, in the 27th year, the word of the LORD came to me:
  18. 18Son of man, King Nebuchadrezzar of Babylon made his army serve greatly against Tyre. Every head was made bald, and every shoulder was peeled. Yet neither he nor his army received any wages from Tyre for the service they performed against it.
  19. 19So this is what the Lord GOD says: I am giving the land of Egypt to Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon. He will carry off its wealth, seize its plunder, and strip it of its goods — and that will be the payment for his army.
  20. 20I have given him the land of Egypt as his reward for the work he did against it, because they worked for me, declares the Lord GOD.
  21. 21On that day, I will cause the horn of the house of Israel to sprout, and I will open your mouth to speak among them. Then they will know that I am the LORD.
