  1. 1In the 25th year of our captivity, at the beginning of the year, on the 10th day of the month, 14 years after the city was struck, on that very day, the hand of the LORD was upon me and brought me there.
  2. 2In the visions of God he brought me into the land of Israel and set me on a very high mountain, on which there was like the frame of a city on the south.
  3. 3He brought me closer, and there stood a man whose appearance gleamed like bronze. He held a linen cord and a measuring reed in his hand, and he was standing at the gate.
  4. 4The man said to me, "Son of man, look carefully with your eyes, listen closely with your ears, and pay attention to everything I'm about to show you. This is why you were brought here — so I could show you these things. Tell the house of Israel everything you see."
  5. 5I saw a wall surrounding the outside of the temple complex. The measuring reed in the man's hand was 6 cubits long (each cubit being a standard cubit plus a hand width). He measured the wall's thickness — 1 reed. Its height — 1 reed.
  6. 6Then he went to the gate that faced east and climbed its steps. He measured the first threshold of the gate — 1 reed wide — and the second threshold — also 1 reed wide.
  7. 7Each guard room was 1 reed long and 1 reed wide, with 5 cubits between each room. The threshold of the gate next to the inner porch was 1 reed.
  8. 8He also measured the gate's inner porch — 1 reed.
  9. 9Then he measured the porch of the gate, which was eight cubits, and its posts were two cubits. The porch of the gate was inward.
  10. 10The east gate had three guard rooms on each side. All three rooms on each side were the same size, and the posts on both sides were identical in measurement.
  11. 11He measured the width of the gate's entrance — 10 cubits — and the total length of the gate passage — 13 cubits.
  12. 12In front of each guard room was a low wall 1 cubit wide on each side. The guard rooms themselves were 6 cubits on each side.
  13. 13He then measured the gate from the roof of one chamber to the roof of the opposite one: the width was twenty-five cubits, door to door.
  14. 14He also made posts of 60 cubits, even to the post of the court all around the gate.
  15. 15From the front of the gate's entrance to the front of the inner porch was 50 cubits.
  16. 16There were narrow windows in the guard rooms and their posts throughout the gate on all sides, and also in the archways. The windows faced inward all around, and each post was decorated with carved palm trees.
  17. 17Then he brought me into the outer court. There I saw rooms and a stone pavement running along the court all around. 30 rooms lined the pavement.
  18. 18The pavement ran alongside the gates, matching their length. This was the lower pavement.
  19. 19He measured the distance from the front of the lower gate to the outside wall of the inner court — 100 cubits on both the east and north sides.
  20. 20Next he measured the length and width of the gate in the outer court that faced north.
  21. 21It had 3 guard rooms on each side, and its posts and archways matched the measurements of the first gate — 50 cubits long and 25 cubits wide.
  22. 22Its windows, archways, and palm tree carvings matched the dimensions of the east gate. 7 steps led up to it, and its archways were on the inner side.
  23. 23Across from this north gate was a gate leading into the inner court, just as on the east side. He measured the distance from the outer gate to the inner gate — 100 cubits.
  24. 24Then he led me toward the south, where there was another gate. He measured its posts and archways, and they matched the same dimensions as the others.
  25. 25It had windows all around in both the gate and its archways, just like the other gates. It was 50 cubits long and 25 cubits wide.
  26. 267 steps led up to it, and its archways were on the inner side. It had palm trees carved on its posts, one on each side.
  27. 27There was also a gate to the inner court on the south side. He measured from this gate to the outer south gate — 100 cubits.
  28. 28Then he brought me into the inner court through the south gate. He measured the south gate, and it matched the same dimensions as the others.
  29. 29Its guard rooms, posts, and archways all matched the same measurements. It had windows in the gate and archways all around. It was 50 cubits long and 25 cubits wide.
  30. 30The archways around it were 25 cubits long and 5 cubits wide.
  31. 31Its archways faced the outer court. Palm trees decorated its posts, and 8 steps led up to it.
  32. 32He brought me into the inner court on the east side and measured the gate there. It matched the same dimensions.
  33. 33Its guard rooms, posts, and archways all matched the same measurements. It had windows in the gate and archways all around. It was 50 cubits long and 25 cubits wide.
  34. 34Its archways faced the outer court. Palm trees decorated its posts on both sides, and 8 steps led up to it.
  35. 35Then he brought me to the north gate and measured it. It matched the same dimensions.
  36. 36Its guard rooms, posts, and archways all had windows around them. It was 50 cubits long and 25 cubits wide.
  37. 37Its posts faced the outer court. Palm trees decorated the posts on both sides, and 8 steps led up to it.
  38. 38There was a room with a doorway next to the posts at the gates. This was where they washed the burnt offerings.
  39. 39In the porch of the gate, there were two tables on each side for slaughtering the burnt offerings, sin offerings, and trespass offerings.
  40. 40Outside the entrance, on the way up to the north gate, were 2 more tables on one side and 2 tables on the other side by the gate's porch.
  41. 41So there were 4 tables on each side of the gate — 8 tables in all — where the sacrifices were slaughtered.
  42. 42There were also 4 tables of cut stone for the burnt offerings, each 1 and a half cubits long, 1 and a half cubits wide, and 1 cubit high. On these tables they laid the tools used for slaughtering the burnt offerings and other sacrifices.
  43. 43Inside were hooks, each a hand broad, fastened all around. The meat of the offerings was on the tables.
  44. 44Outside the inner gate were the rooms of the singers in the inner court, which was at the side of the north gate; and they faced toward the south. One at the side of the east gate faced toward the north.
  45. 45He told me, "The room facing south is for the priests who are responsible for the care of the temple."
  46. 46The room facing north is for the priests, the keepers of the charge of the altar. These are the sons of Zadok among the sons of Levi who come near to the LORD to serve him.
  47. 47He measured the inner court — 100 cubits long and 100 cubits wide, a perfect square. The altar stood in front of the temple.
  48. 48Then he brought me to the porch of the temple and measured each post of the porch — 5 cubits on each side. The gateway was 3 cubits wide on each side.
  49. 49The porch was 20 cubits long and 11 cubits wide. Steps led up to it, and there was a pillar on each side of the posts.
