- 2Israel will cry out to me, 'My God, we know you!'
- 3But Israel has rejected what is good, so the enemy will chase them down.
- 4They have set up kings, but not by me. They have made princes, and I did not know it. Of their silver and their gold they have made themselves idols, so that they may be cut off.
- 5Samaria, your calf has rejected you; my anger burns against them. How long will they be unable to attain innocence?

- 8Israel is swallowed up. Now they will be among the Gentiles like a vessel in which there is no pleasure.
- 9They have gone up to Assyria, like a wild donkey wandering alone. Ephraim has hired lovers.
- 10Even though they have hired among the nations, I will now gather them, and they will sorrow a little for the burden of the king of princes.
- 11Because Ephraim has made many altars to sin, those altars will be used by him to sin.
- 12I wrote to them the great things of my law, but they considered it a strange thing.
- 13They offer sacrifices to me and eat the meat, but the LORD does not accept their offerings. Now he will remember their guilt and punish their sins. They will go back to Egypt.
- 14Israel has forgotten his Maker and built temples, and Judah has fortified city after city. But I will send fire on their cities, and it will consume their fortresses.
