1. 1So you have no excuse, whoever you are, when you pass judgment on someone else. Because when you judge another person, you're actually condemning yourself — since you who judge do the very same things.
2. 2We know that God's judgment against those who practice such things is based on truth.
3. 3Do you really think, you who judge others for doing these things while doing them yourself, that you will escape God's judgment?
4. 4Or do you despise the riches of his goodness, tolerance, and patience, not realizing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?
5. 5But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of wrath, when God's righteous judgment will be revealed.
6. 6He will repay each person according to what they have done.
7. 7To those who by patient persistence in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality, he will give eternal life.
8. 8But for those who are contentious and do not obey the truth but obey unrighteousness, there will be indignation and wrath.
9. 9Tribulation and anguish will come upon every soul who does evil — the Jew first, and also the Gentile.
10. 10But glory, honor, and peace will come to everyone who does what is good — to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile.
11. 11Because God does not show favoritism.
12. 12Everyone who sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and everyone who sinned under the law will be judged by the law.
13. 13(It is not those who hear the law who are righteous before God, but those who do the law who will be declared righteous.
14. 14When Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature the things the law requires, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law.
15. 15They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts either accusing or else defending them.)
16. 16This will take place on the day when God judges the secrets of people through Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.
17. 17Now, you call yourself a Jew and rely on the law and boast in God,
18. 18and you know his will and approve what is excellent, being instructed from the law.
19. 19You are confident that you are a guide for the blind, a light for those in darkness,
20. 20an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of the immature, because you have in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth.
21. 21You then who teach others — do you not teach yourself? You who preach that one should not steal — do you steal?
22. 22You who say one should not commit adultery — do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols — do you rob temples?
23. 23You who boast in the law — do you dishonor God by breaking the law?
24. 24As it is written, "The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you."
25. 25Circumcision has value if you keep the law, but if you break the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision.
26. 26So if an uncircumcised person keeps the requirements of the law, will not his uncircumcision be counted as circumcision?
27. 27And will not the one who is physically uncircumcised but fulfills the law judge you who, despite having the written code and circumcision, transgress the law?
28. 28For a person is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision something outward in the flesh.
29. 29But a person is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. That person's praise comes not from people, but from God.
