  1. 1Follow my example, just as I follow the example of Christ.
  2. 2Now I praise you, brothers, because you remember me in everything and keep the ordinances as I passed them on to you.
  3. 3But I want you to understand this: Christ is the head of every man, man is the head of woman, and God is the head of Christ.
  4. 4Any man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head.
  5. 5But any woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head — it's the same as if she had shaved it completely.
  6. 6If a woman won't cover her head, she might as well cut her hair off. But if it's shameful for a woman to have her hair cut off or shaved, then she should cover her head.
  7. 7A man shouldn't cover his head, because he is the image and glory of God. But the woman is the glory of the man.
  8. 8After all, man didn't come from woman — woman came from man.
  9. 9And man wasn't created for the woman's sake, but woman for the man's sake.
  10. 10For this reason, a woman should have authority on her head because of the angels.
  11. 11Even so, in the Lord, woman is not independent of man, and man is not independent of woman.
  12. 12For just as woman came from man, every man is also born through a woman — and everything ultimately comes from God.
  13. 13Think about it for yourselves: is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?
  14. 14Doesn't nature itself teach you that long hair on a man is a disgrace to him?
  15. 15But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her, because her hair is given to her for a covering.
  16. 16If anyone wants to argue about this, we don't practice any other custom — and neither do any of God's churches.
  17. 17Now, in this matter that I declare to you, I do not praise you, for your gatherings are not for the better, but for the worse.
  18. 18First of all, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you — and I believe at least some of it is true.
  19. 19For there must also be heresies among you, so that those who are approved may be clearly seen among you.
  20. 20When you gather together, what you're eating is not really the Lord's Supper.
  21. 21Because when it's time to eat, each of you rushes ahead with your own meal. One person goes hungry while another gets drunk.
  22. 22Don't you have your own homes to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What am I supposed to say to you? Should I praise you for this? I do not praise you.
  23. 23Here is what I received from the Lord himself, and what I passed on to you: On the night he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took bread.
  24. 24After giving thanks, he broke it and said, "Take and eat. This is my body, which is broken for you. Do this to remember me."
  25. 25In the same way, after the meal, he took the cup and said, "This cup is the new testament in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me."
  26. 26Every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are proclaiming the Lord's death until he comes back.
  27. 27So anyone who eats this bread and drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
  28. 28Each person should examine themselves first, and then eat the bread and drink from the cup.
  29. 29For anyone who eats and drinks unworthily eats and drinks damnation to themselves, not discerning the Lord's body.
  30. 30That's why so many of you are weak and sick, and a number of you have died.
  31. 31If we examined ourselves honestly, we wouldn't come under judgment.
  32. 32But when the Lord does judge us, he disciplines us so that we won't be condemned along with the rest of the world.
  33. 33So, my brothers and sisters, when you come together to eat, wait for each other.
  34. 34If anyone is really hungry, eat at home first — so that when you gather, it doesn't bring judgment on you. I'll sort out the other matters when I arrive.
