  1. 1On the third day, a wedding took place in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.
  2. 2Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.
  3. 3When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine."
  4. 4Jesus said to her, "Woman, what does that have to do with me? My hour has not yet come."
  5. 5His mother told the servants, "Whatever he tells you, do it."
  6. 6Nearby stood six stone water jars used for Jewish ceremonial washing, each holding twenty to thirty gallons.
  7. 7Jesus told them, "Fill the jars with water." So they filled them to the brim.
  8. 8Then he said, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast." So they took it to him.
  9. 9When the ruler of the feast tasted the water that had been made into wine, he did not know where it came from — though the servants who had drawn the water knew. The ruler of the feast called the bridegroom
  10. 10and said to him, "Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have had plenty to drink. But you have kept the good wine until now."
  11. 11This was the first of his miraculous signs, which Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee. He revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him.
  12. 12After this, he went down to Capernaum — he, his mother, his brothers, and his disciples — and they stayed there only a few days.
  13. 13The Jewish Passover was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
  14. 14In the temple he found people selling oxen, sheep, and doves, and money changers sitting at their tables.
  15. 15So he made a whip out of cords and drove them all out of the temple, along with the sheep and the oxen. He poured out the money changers' coins and overturned their tables.
  16. 16To those selling doves he said, "Take these things out of here! Stop making my Father's house a house of merchandise!"
  17. 17His disciples remembered that it is written, "Zeal for your house has consumed me."
  18. 18Then the Jews responded and said to him, "What sign do you show us, since you do these things?"
  19. 19Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."
  20. 20The Jews then said, "This temple took forty-six years to build, and you will raise it up in three days?"
  21. 21But he was speaking about the temple of his body.
  22. 22So when he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.
  23. 23Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in his name when they saw the signs he was doing.
