  4. 4“Carry no money bag, travel bag, or shoes, and greet no one along the way.”

  6. 6If a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; if not, it will return to you.
  7. 7Stay in that same house, and eat and drink whatever they offer you, because a worker deserves to be paid. Don't keep moving from house to house.
  8. 8When you enter a town and the people welcome you, eat whatever food they put in front of you.
  9. 9Heal the sick who are there, and tell them, 'The kingdom of God has come near to you.'
  10. 10But when you enter a town and they don't welcome you, go out into the streets and say,
  11. 11'We're wiping off even the dust of your town that clings to our feet as a witness against you. But know this — the kingdom of God has come near to you.'
  12. 12I'm telling you, on judgment day it will be more bearable for Sodom than for that town.
  13. 13Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done among you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
  14. 14But on judgment day, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon than for you.
  15. 15And you, Capernaum, which are exalted to heaven, will be thrust down to hell.
  16. 16Whoever listens to you is listening to me. Whoever rejects you is rejecting me. And whoever rejects me is rejecting the one who sent me."
  17. 17The 70 came back overjoyed. "Lord," they said, "even the demons obey us when we use your name!"
  18. 18He said to them, “I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning.”
  19. 19Listen — I've given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overpower every force of the enemy. Nothing will harm you in any way.
  20. 20But don't celebrate because the spirits submit to you. Instead, celebrate because your names are written in heaven."
  21. 21At that time, Jesus rejoiced in spirit and said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, because this was pleasing in your sight.”
  22. 22All things are delivered to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
  23. 23Then he turned to his disciples privately and said, "How blessed are the eyes that see what you're seeing!
  24. 24I tell you, many prophets and kings longed to see what you're seeing but never saw it, and to hear what you're hearing but never heard it."
  25. 25Look, a certain expert in the law stood up and tested him, saying, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
  26. 26Jesus said to him, "What does the law say? How do you read it?"
  27. 27The man answered, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind' — and 'love your neighbor as yourself.'"
  28. 28"That's the right answer," Jesus told him. "Do this, and you will live."
  29. 29But the man wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, "And who exactly is my neighbor?"
  30. 30Jesus answered with a story: "A man was traveling the road from Jerusalem down to Jericho when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him, beat him, and left him lying there half dead.
  31. 31A priest happened to be going down that same road. When he saw the man, he crossed to the other side and kept walking.
  32. 32A Levite came along too. He walked over, looked at the man, and then crossed to the other side and kept going.
  33. 33Then a Samaritan came traveling down the road. When he saw the man, he felt compassion for him.
  34. 34He went to him, bandaged his wounds, poured oil and wine on them, lifted the man onto his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
  35. 35The next morning before he left, he gave the innkeeper 2 denarii and said, 'Take care of him. If you spend more than this, I'll pay you back when I return.'
  36. 36Now which of these 3 men do you think was a neighbor to the man who was attacked by robbers?"
  37. 37The expert in the law replied, "The one who showed him mercy." Jesus said to him, "Go and do the same."

  40. 40But Martha was overwhelmed with all the preparations. She came to Jesus and said, "Lord, doesn't it bother you that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her to come help me!"
  41. 41Jesus answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things.
  42. 42But one thing is needful: and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.
