  1. 1After the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so they could go and anoint Jesus' body.
  2. 2Very early on Sunday morning, just as the sun was rising, they headed to the tomb.
  3. 3On the way, they asked each other, "Who's going to roll that stone away from the entrance of the tomb for us?"
  4. 4But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had already been rolled away — and it was massive.
  5. 5They stepped inside the tomb and saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a long white robe. They were terrified.
  6. 6He told them, "Don't be afraid. You're looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen! He isn't here. Look — this is where they laid him."
  7. 7"Now go tell his disciples — and Peter — that he is going ahead of you to Galilee. You'll see him there, just as he told you."
  8. 8They went out quickly and fled from the tomb, trembling and amazed. They didn't say anything to anyone, because they were afraid.
  9. 9After Jesus rose early on Sunday morning, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons.
  10. 10She went and told those who had been with him, as they mourned and wept.
  11. 11But when they heard that he was alive and that she had seen him, they did not believe it.
  12. 12After that, Jesus appeared in a different form to 2 of them as they were walking out into the countryside.
  13. 13They went back and told the others, but no one believed them either.
  14. 14Later, Jesus appeared to the eleven disciples while they were eating. He rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen him after he had risen.
  15. 15Then he told them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to every creature."
  16. 16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be damned.
  17. 17These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons and speak in new languages.
  18. 18They will pick up serpents, and if they drink anything deadly, it won't harm them. They will place their hands on the sick, and the sick will be healed."
  19. 19After the Lord Jesus finished speaking to them, he was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.
  20. 20The disciples went out and preached everywhere, with the Lord working alongside them and confirming the word with signs that followed. Amen.
