  1. 1Solomon began building the house of the LORD in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the LORD had appeared to his father David. This was the site David had prepared — the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
  2. 2Construction began on the 2nd day of the 2nd month, in the 4th year of Solomon's reign.
  3. 3These are the instructions Solomon received for building the house of God: its length was 60 cubits, using the old standard of measurement, and its width was 20 cubits.
  4. 4The entrance porch stretched across the full 20-cubit width of the building and rose to a height of 120 cubits. Solomon overlaid its interior with pure gold.
  5. 5He lined the main hall with fir tree wood, then covered it with fine gold and decorated it with palm trees and chains.
  6. 6He adorned the house with precious stones for beauty. The gold he used came from Parvaim.
  7. 7He covered the entire house with gold—the beams, the posts, the walls, and the doors—and carved cherubim into the walls.
  8. 8He constructed the Most Holy Place, which was 20 cubits long and 20 cubits wide, matching the width of the house. He overlaid it with fine gold totaling 600 talents.
  9. 9The gold nails alone weighed 50 shekels. He also covered the upper rooms with gold.
  10. 10Inside the Most Holy Place, he made two cherubim of image work and overlaid them with gold.
  11. 11The combined wingspan of the cherubim was 20 cubits. One wing of the first cherub was 5 cubits long and touched the wall of the house, while its other wing was also 5 cubits long and reached the wing of the second cherub.
  12. 12Likewise, one wing of the second cherub was 5 cubits long and touched the opposite wall, while its other wing was 5 cubits long and met the wing of the first cherub.
  13. 13Together, the wings of these cherubim stretched out 20 cubits. They stood on their feet, with their faces turned inward.
  14. 14And he made the veil of blue, purple, and crimson, and fine linen, and decorated it with cherubim.
  15. 15In front of the house he erected 2 pillars, each 35 cubits tall, with a capital on top of each that was 5 cubits high.
  16. 16He crafted chains like those in the inner sanctuary and placed them on top of the pillars. He also made 100 pomegranates and attached them to the chains.
  17. 17He set up the pillars at the front of the temple, one on the right and one on the left. He named the one on the right Jachin and the one on the left Boaz.
